Despite diets, intense exercise, tight and form-fitting clothing that supports the body and prevents sagging…..even “fad” supplements that allegedly melt away fat and pounds…cellulite remains. Cellulite – the bane of the middle-aged woman’s existence, or at least one of the banes! But what exactly is cellulite, and where does it come from? Perhaps more importantly, can it be gotten rid of, or at least diminished somehow for the modern woman and her modern, active lifestyle?
Unfortunately, just about every woman develops cellulite as they grow older, especially women who have gone through puberty, which is just about every woman! The reasons for this generation and accumulation of cellulite are not completely understood. Blame it on evolution, blame it on intelligent design or God, even blame it on the genes your ancestors carried with them centuries ago. But blaming, of course, will not make cellulite go away.
Beneath your first few layers of skin – the epidermis and dermis layers of skin – are actually three layers of fat – and mysterious cellulite develops in the subcutaneous layer of this fat – the most superficial layer of fat on a woman’s body. It’s important to state that cellulite is actually more of a description than an actual object. In other words, cellulite is not so much a new fat per se as it is a modification of the skin’s topography in the form of dimpling – normally manifesting in the pelvic area, lower limbs and the abdomen.
